The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw these lippies was the name 'matte lip gloss' - for my normal brain lip gloss means a glossy lip so I was intrigued about these matte lip glosses.
So when I saw these lippies at my local Dischem, I got the impression that these can't be all that matte because the packaging made the lip glosses look glossy. I decide to try just two shades before going wild. I started my tryout with the safest colour - the 'Backstage' shade, to me this was the safest colour for even work.
Now when I applied the lip gloss, I hadn't applied moisturizer to my lips as I wanted to see and feel the full effect. Promise the colour is to die for. On application it was glossy and I loved how the applicator was thin enough for proper application. After almost 30 seconds of application, my lips were as matte as ever and the best thing is that the lip gloss didn't move - it literally stayed in its place.
Throughout the day my lips were matte, after eating and drinking this lip gloss was still intact. Even though at some point during the day I felt as though my lips were a bit dry - the colour stayed.
Now after trying it with my "normal lips", the next day I decided to apply a lip moisturizer before applying the lip gloss. Yes I felt the difference upon application - the matte feeling didn't feel as tight. But granted after a couple of seconds the lips were matte with a hint of moisture.
My personal verdict is that I love these lip glosses but I would still recommend that you apply some lip moisturizer before. If you are a soft matte, gloss or moisturising lipstick / lip gloss kind of girl, then this kind of texture on your lips might take some getting used to.
With all that said, I'm definitely going to be extending my colour range. These LA Girl Matte Lip Glosses are available from Dischem at a retail price of R60 (affordable). They come in 16 different shades - so you'll definitely find a colour for you.
I've posted pics of how the colours I started with. The deep red shade is called Backstage and my so called weekend shade in purple is called Stunner.
Hope you enjoyed my lovies.
